Routes at Sicó Mountain

Sicó Mountain is an elevation with 559 meters integrated into the Montejunto-Estrela System, located in Beira Litoral Province, centre of Portugal. Being a magnificent example of the region's karstic landscape, it features bare rock slopes combined with Mediterranean shrub vegetation and houses various relics of fauna and flora such as the eagle owl, Portuguese oak and the holm oak. In a region where surface water is practically non-existent, dry valleys that conceal a dense network of underground caves through which water infiltrates predominate. It is in this scenario that the two days of activity proposed here are conducted.

Day 1 — Conímbriga Route

Starting from the ruins of Conímbriga, the trail takes the direction of Alfarda Woods where there is a meadow pine forest combined with Mediterranean species such as Portuguese oak, holm oak and cork oak. The characteristic karstic cloak of the area is evident throughout Mouros River Valley, which exhibits landscapes very diversified depending on the time of year, although for a large part of the year does not show any flow.

Day 2 — Buracas do Casmilo Valley

This trail begins in the village of Casmilo towards a valley of steep and bare slopes, where there are several rocky shelters called "buracas". These imposing formations, situated among fascinating mountains, are the ex libris of this region.
