Piódão

The typical village of Piódão is in a terraced amphitheatre of Açor Mountain and its houses are characterised by traditional shale walls, ceiling covered with slabs and doors and windows painted blue. The aspect that the artificial light gives it during the night, together with the disposition of the houses, made it receive the denomination of "Christmas Crib Village". For two days, besides a visit to this distinct village, there will be an opportunity to discover some of the most emblematic areas of the region: Margaraça Woods and Foz d'Égua.

Day 1 — Shale Path of Benfeita and Margaraça Woods

On this day, the trail of Shale Path of Benfeita goes to Margaraça Woods which is where Fraga da Pena is hidden, a privileged place of encounter with nature. An idyllic setting where the water clears its way through the vegetation and the slaty surface and splits into a majestic waterfall over 20 meters. An extraordinary natural wonder that remains untouched by man and where an impressive serenity prevails only being interrupted by the sound of water and the chirping of birds. Originated by a geological accident, the waterfalls, which hide among that floristic set of high interest, form a paradisiacal place that stands out for its authenticity and freshness.
