Vimeiro Peaks
It was on these summits that on 21 August 1808 the Battle of Vimeiro took place, which opposed the French Napoleonic army to the Anglo-Portuguese army, putting an end to the First French Invasion in Portugal. The Porto Novo Beach and the Alcabrichel River were important allies in the strategy of the Anglo-Portuguese troops and it is through these parts, near the cliffs of Maceira valley, that one can enjoy clear views, both for the luxuriant furrows that surround it or to the troubled Atlantic Ocean.
As the name implies, the peaks imply steep ascents and descents, some to do with caution. However, it is a challenge accessible to anyone who wants to take breath-taking photographs.
